4/1 - Grande Fête de la Francophonie des Ecoles in Providence [fr]
The largest gathering of French students in New England!
Each year, as part of the world wide celebration of Francophonie Month, the Consulate General of France in Boston organizes a fun day of French activities geared toward middle school and high school students in the region.
During the 2016 celebration of Francophone countries and language, 2000 students from New England middle schools and high schools who have a passion for French language will gather in PCTA school (Providence Career Technical Academy) in Providence, RI on April 1st, 2016.
From 10 am to 1 pm, students will have fun with French and will listen to Sidy Maiga from Mali. With his musicians and dancers, this percussionist will play African rhythms and will invite students to join by stomping their feet and clapping their hands.
Each class will be asked to represent a Francophone country and a chorus of 2000 voices will interpret two francophone songs previously practiced in their French classes : "C OKAY" by Swing and "On Ecrit sur les Murs" by Kids United.
Before and during the event, the Rhode Island International Film Festival will be showing an original selection of Francophone short movies.
During that day, the Centre de la Francophonie des Amériques will also offer 3 e-book readers to three classes from New England who will have participated in the "Concours de twittérature des Amériques" (click here to learn more about the contest).
This event is free and open to all. The goal is to expand students’ horizons, encourage them to be curious about other cultures and promote values of diversity, peace and innovation through French.
