Ambassador Delattre wishes you a happy holiday season and a great new year!
Ambassador Delattre - Washington D.C. - December 22, 2012.
"Dear friends, Bonjour,
As we look ahead to 2013, I want to wish you all the best for the next year.
But let me begin by offering our American friends our deepest sympathies after the recent tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut. President François Hollande immediately sent his condolences to President Obama and the American people.
Relations between France and the United States have never been closer than they are today, as illustrated by President Hollande’s very successful visit to Washington last May, literally three days after his inauguration.
This special bond between our two countries has been key to facing diplomatic and strategic challenges all over the world. This is the case for Syria, Iran, and Mali, to name just a few.
Our shared commitment to democratic values is at the heart of our partnership, and will shape our collaboration for years to come.
More specifically, our economic, cultural, scientific and university collaboration has never been closer. Here I would like to mention the 2012 Nobel Prize in physics won jointly a few weeks ago by the Frenchman Serge Haroche and the American David Wineland.
Our economic partnership has also continued to grow strongly this year, through innovation and cross-investments in particular, which are the backbone of the French-American economic partnership :
France is among the leading foreign investors in the United States, with 3,000 French companies supporting more than 600,000 American jobs; and, as far as American investment in France is concerned, high tech companies like Microsoft and Google recently established their main European research centers in France.
I look forward to another great year of Franco-American friendship.
On behalf of all the staff of the French Embassy in Washington and throughout the country, I would like to wish you and your families, from the bottom of my heart, all the very best for 2013.
Du fond du cœur, je vous souhaite de très joyeuses fêtes et une très bonne et heureuse année 2013."
