Anniversary of the September 11 Terrorist Attacks
A message from François Delattre, Ambassador of France to the United States.
Washington, D.C. - September 10, 2012.
This September 11—a date that will always have special meaning—I want to convey a message of friendship, solidarity and compassion to the American people on behalf of the French authorities.
France, along with the entire world, will never forget the victims of that horrific day in September 2001.
Struck to the core, the American nation lifted itself back up and confronted adversity and barbarism with courage and determination. As France’s Consul-General in New York from 2004 to 2008, I witnessed the great pain that remained in the hearts of New Yorkers, but also their restraint they showed in their sorrow and their unwavering faith in the future.
Like hundreds of thousands of French people living in the United States, my thoughts go out to the families of the victims, the orphans, widows, widowers and parents who lost a dear one 11 years ago. Let them rest assured that France stands by their side during this day of contemplation and remembrance.
