Bastille Day: decoration ceremony of 2 American WWII Veterans
On July 14, 2016, Valéry Freland, Consul General of France in Boston, decorated two American World War II veterans with the French Legion of Honour.
Sergeant Joseph Cohen of Cambridge, MA and Private James Newell of West Bridgewater, MA were raised to the rank of Chevalier in a ceremony held at the Residence of France in Cambridge.
It was a very emotional ceremony, especially in light of the recent tragedy in Nice. These two veterans, truly embody the values that the United States and France share: freedom and democracy. Everyone present could feel the strength of the French-American friendship.
