French for Kids! is a small independent school located in Lexington, Massachusetts which offers a French English bilingual preschool as well as after school French language classes. French for Kids! was founded in 1997 by a French woman, Monique Heymann, and an American woman, Janis Rothbard. The vision for their school has been guided by their love for children and their passion for starting children on the journey of second language learning at a young age. The founders drew upon their many years of combined experience in education and administration to create an innovative and well-managed small school. EFGB is a non profit association created by a dynamic community of parents and teachers committed to the language and culture of Francophones countries. EFGB aims to provide affordable education options adapted to their specific needs.
EFGB teachers are all native French speakers with teaching experience and are familiar with the specificities of bilingualism.
Following the growing demand of Francophones families, EFGB has created two French language immersion programs:
1. The P’tits Bouts school
The P’tits Bouts is a unique French immersion school from preschool up to second grade.
The fundamental idea of EFGB is to offer Francophone families, easier access to an affordable and high quality French education.
The school is supported by a community of committed parents who are willing to be actively involved in their child’s education and the school life.
EFGB is located in 3 convenient locations: Cambridge and Watertown.
Total immersion: Instruction is exclusively in French (optional introduction to English language in Pre-Pre-K and Pre-K and is part of the curriculum from K to 2nd Grade).
EFGB follows the French National Education curriculum and takes into account American school system practices.
EFGB is fully licensed by Early Education and Care, and in agreement with American and Massachusetts Public Schools System.
Small classes (16 to 20 students) allowing quality education tailored to each child’s profile and way of learning.
The school schedule is from 8.30 AM to 3.00 PM on weekdays, with the option of extended daycare hours if needed.
Children enrolled in preschool may have the options of 5, 3 or 2 days of attendance a week.
2. French afterschool program: FLAM Program
This program has been created for children attending the regular American school system. The curriculum has been specifically tailored to maintain and strengthen the French language knowledge that students have already acquired. A custom program responds to the specific needs of these students.
They are able to improve and develop their communication skills, reading and writing in French.
Various language components like grammar, conjugation and vocabulary will be covered with a strong cultural program as a thread.
Classes are organised in nine towns: Boston, Brookline, Lexington, Watertown, Cambridge, Newton, Sudbury, Wellesley and Winchester.
