How to apply?

1. The Consulate General of France in Boston’s area

You may apply for a visa at the Consulate General of France in Boston if you are resident in the following states:

  • Massachusetts
  • Maine
  • New Hampshire
  • Rhode Island
  • Vermont

We do not accept applications from B1/B2 visa holders. They must apply in their country of residence.

2. Personal appearance

For security reasons :

  • all visa applicants have to appear personally at the Consulate General of France in Boston. They will be received individually, without accompaniment, except under specific circumstances (children under 6 and authorize representative).
  • the use of cellphones is strictly forbidden in the visa section. Thank you for switching them off.

3. How and when to make an appointment?

The visa section is open to the public on an appointment basis, with no walk-ins allowed.

You must schedule an appointment (minimum 15 days and maximum 3 months before your departure) with the visa section to apply for a visa. To do so, you must use our online visa appointment system..
No appointment can be made by phone or by e-mailing us and make sure you bring all the required documents when coming to the Consulate General. As slots are limited, it is strongly recommended to book as early as possible.

4. How to cancel an appointment?

5. Holiday closures

The visa section will be closed this year on the days listed on our Address and Hours page.
On this occasion, we will allow for passports to be picked up at the Visa section from 9am to 12:30pm without any appointment.
