March 26: Francophonie film festival: Aya de Yopougon

To celebrate the diversity of the Francophone world, the Consulate General of France in Boston and the Coolidge Corner Theaterpresent Aya de Yopougon, an animated film directed by Marguerite Abouet and Clément Oubrerie March 26. Based on the graphic novel by the same authors, this award-nominated film recounts the lives of a group of young women living in Abidjan (Ivory Coast) in the late 1970’s: the studious Aya and her two friends Adjoua and Bintou, who would rather party and flirt with boys in “the bush” (the local dance halls)… until the day Adjoua, who is not married, finds out that she is pregnant. "A poignant and refreshing immersion into the effervescent world of 1970’s Africa." Screening in French with English subtitles.
