May 29: Skylark Ensemble at the Church of the Advent

Skylark, Atlanta’s 16-member professional a cappella ensemble of vocalists from across the US, under the direction of Matthew Guard, presents “Clear Voices in the Dark” on Friday, May 29th at 7:30 pm at Church of the Advent, in Boston’s Beacon Hill.

In honor of the anniversary of the end of the Second World War and the end of the American Civil War, on the week of the Memorial Day Holiday, Skylark Ensemble will perform Francis Poulenc’s Figure Humaine ("The Face of Man"). Figure Humaine is widely regarded as one of the greatest works composed for a cappella choir. It was composed in 1943 and features poems by Résistance poet Paul Eluard, sung in French. Skylark Ensemble will also perform well-known English-language songs from the American Civil War, together with forgotten songs recently rediscovered in the Duke University Historical Sheet Music Archives.
Tickets are $30│$20 for seniors│free for students and musical educators.
