On May 16, Consul General Arnaud Mentré visited Maine
He started his trip at the Maine State House in Augusta to celebrate the 17th Annual Franco-American Day.
The Maine Legislature held a joint session in the House of Representatives to recognize the Franco-American heritage evident throughout the state. Eleven citizens were inducted into the Franco-American Hall of Fame during formal legislative ceremonies.
In his speech, Consul General, Arnaud Mentré recognized and complimented the Maine Legislature for leading the Franco-American Day ceremonies in French and English. “I appreciate the diversity of accents being heard today,” he said. “French is a universal language”.
After the ceremony, he travelled to Portland, Maine, where he met with Xavier Botana, Superintendent of Portland Public Schools at French restaurant Petite Jacqueline. They talked about opening a French Immersion program in Portland.
Consul General, Arnaud Mentré then visited the newly established Alliance Française of Portland. He visited their new office space, which they share with the Greater Portland Welcome Immigrant Center.
The Consulate General of France in Boston will help the Alliance Française of Portland with their launch event which will take place on Thursday August 29, 2019.
Lastly, Mr. Arnaud Mentré met with Mr. Alban Maino, the CEO of Dreamland Technology. This last meeting ended in front of the beautiful Portland Head Light.
