President Hollande’s State Visit to the United States

French President François Hollande will be in Washington on February 10-12 for a State visit. The last State visit by a French President was in 1996, when President Jacques Chirac visited President Bill Clinton.

Monday, February 10 – Washington (Paris + 6 hours)

  • 2:30 pm President Hollande’s arrival in the United States of America
  • 4:30 pm Visit by the two heads of state to the estate of Monticello, home of Thomas Jefferson
  • 8:00 pm Dinner with Christine Lagarde, Managing Director of the IMF, and Dr. Jim Yong Kim, President of the World Bank

Tuesday, February 11 - Washington (Paris + 6 hours)

  • 9:00 am Welcome ceremony at the White House
    Meeting between the two heads of state, François Hollande and Barack Obama
  • 12:00 pm Joint press conference by the two presidents
  • 1:15 pm Lunch with Joseph R. Biden, Vice President of the United States, and John F. Kerry, Secretary of State, at the Department of State
  • 3:15 pm Wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery
  • 3:45 pm Award ceremony to honor 6 veterans of the Second World War in Fort Myer
  • 4:30 pm Meeting with American business leaders
  • 7:00 pm State Dinner hosted by Barack Obama at the White House

Wednesday February 12 – San Francisco (Paris + 9 hours)

  • 11:00 am Meeting at San Francisco City Hall with Edwin M. Lee, Mayor of San Francisco, and Edmund G. Brown, Governor of California
  • 12:30 pm Lunch with American business leaders
  • 2:15 Inauguration of the U.S.-French Tech Hub, in the presence of Edwin M. Lee. Speech by President Hollande
  • 4:00 pm Meeting with leading figures from civil society
  • 6:00 pm Speech by President Hollande to the French community
