Proustfest 2013: Dinner with Proust scholar William C. Carter
As part of Proustfest 2013, on the evening of November 14, 2013, Mrs. Magali Boutiot, our education and linguistic assistant attended a lecture and a special dinner at the Providence Athaeneum and Pot au Feu in Providence, RI, respectively. In the lecture, organized by Christina Bevilacqua, the host guest William C. Carter, Proust’s definitive biographer and Professor Emeritus at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, presented his new centenary edition of Swann’s Way, published by Yale University Press. Prof. Carter discussed the changes made to this new edition, which corrects previous translating missteps and includes enlightening notes providing biographical, historical, and social contexts.
After a five course dinner of Proust-inspired cuisines and wines accompanied by pianist Aaron Jackson and violinist Chase Spruill, the chef and owner of Pot au Feu, Bob Burke "à sabrer le champagne" and proposed a toast in honor of Marcel Proust, Prof. Carter, and all his invited guests.
