Statement made on November 18th, 2015 by Laurent FABIUS, President of COP21 [fr]
"COP21 needs to enable everyone to mobilize for the climate. Civil society should fulfil its full role.
It will therefore be very present on the very site of the Le Bourget conference centre where the climate Generations areas will host more than three hundred events, debates and conferences throughout the Conference. A considerable mobilization with a great many events is also planned across France. All these events will be maintained, apart from school visits to the Le Bourget site.
The situation created by the odious attacks of 13 November and the investigations that have since been carried out do, however, require enhanced security measures. As such, all events organized in enclosed, easily secured spaces will take place. However, in order to avoid any additional risk, the Government has decided not to authorize the climate marches planned on public roads in Paris and other French cities on 29 November and 12 December.
This is a difficult decision and will no doubt disappoint some of those who hoped to take part, but the imperative of safety requires it.
In no way does it undermine the need – which will be fulfilled – for COP21 to host the full diversity of civil society and its organizations, which play a major role."
