Teacher Associations

L’AATF (American Association of Teachers of French)

The AATF has nearly 10,000 members in the U.S. who teach from pre-school to the university level. They publish the French Review and are responsible for the “Semaine du français” that takes place every fall. AATF also manages “Le Grand Concours”, a national French competition involving small and large high schools.

This association provides numerous services for all teachers of French in the U.S. and regularly organizes educational and cultural activities. The AATF has 75 regional chapters. For more information, please visit the website for the AATF chapter nearest to you.

Foreign language associations (for language teachers)

In each state district, language teachers (Spanish, German, French, etc.) are grouped into an association.

With a mission to promote the teaching and learning of languages and foreign cultures, these associations organize conferences and they offer various services for their members such as job listings and an audiovisual library. Members benefit from teaching workshops, seminars, conventions and conferences organized by the associations.

Their vast network includes:

  • Massachusetts : MAFLA (Massachusetts Foreign Language Association)
  • New Hampshire : NHAWLT (New Hampshire Association for World Language Teachers)
  • Maine :FLAME (Foreign Language Association of Maine)
  • Rhode Island : RIFLA (Rhode Island Foreign Language Association)
  • Vermont : VFLA (Vermont Foreign Language Association)

The FIPF (International Federation of French Professors)

The FIPF is an organization whose objective is to coordinate the actions of French professors worldwide. Their mission is to create associations which promote French learning and also help develop links between the various organizations existing in Francophone education. This organization has 186 associations in 140 countries. 80, 000 French teachers are a part of this organization.
